Valpo falls to East Chicago

The Valparaiso Vikings Varsity faced off against East Chicago in a non-conference basketball game on December 6, 2024. Despite a determined effort, the Vikings could not overcome a strong showing from East Chicago, falling 65-41.
The game began with a slow offensive start for both teams, as the first quarter ended tied at 9-9. However, East Chicago surged ahead in the second quarter, outscoring Valparaiso 22-9. The Vikings struggled to regain momentum as East Chicago continued to control the pace in the second half, securing the victory with consistent scoring. East Chicago showcased their dominance behind the strength of two Division I recruits, Dominique Murphy and Yamauree Wallace.

Both players demonstrated their leadership as part of a team that is returning all its players from last year’s sectional championship squad. Valparaiso’s offense was led by Avery, who tallied 9 points and added 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 rebound in 23 minutes of play. Kimes contributed 6 points, while Stokes matched that output with 6 points of his own. East Chicago showcased a balanced attack, capitalizing on Valparaiso’s turnovers and foul trouble. The Vikings committed 22 turnovers in total, allowing East Chicago to dominate in transition. East Chicago sealed the game with a 65-41 victory over the Vikings
