Vikings win at KV
In their second straight win of the early season, the Valparaiso Vikings fended off a tough challenge from Kankakee Valley, earning a 55-46 victory on Saturday night at Kankakee Valley.
Valpo came out firing in the opening quarter, outscoring KV 10-9 behind aggressive defense and fast-paced play. Valparaiso’s offense leaned on its balanced scoring approach, with several players stepping up at crucial moments. Crowell led the way with 14 points, including two three-pointers and two free throws—Crowell’s ability to stretch the floor and finish inside forced KV’s defense to scramble. As well as Kimes’ 6 assists.
Kankakee Valley made things interesting in the third quarter, KV continually tied up the score against the Vikings and capitalized on a brief offensive lull from the Vikings, hitting a series of shots to gain momentum. Valpo’s defense dominated, forcing 12 turnovers while tallying 8 steals and 3 blocks. The Vikings also won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding KV, with Avery, Stokes, and Kimes leading the way. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Vikings celebrate a 55-46 victory over Kankakee Valley.
